We are very fortunate to have a fine indoor facility for training at the University of Waterloo. Working at UW for training has enabled WAC to capitalize on their abundant athletic space. Practices take place in the Athletic Complex at UW, in the Red Activity Area. The indoor season will have us training at UW until at least the end of March, while weather keeps us locked inside. During the indoor season we focus mainly on the shot put and the weight throw as these are the only two competitive throws during the indoor season. However, we are fortunate to have a space conducive to practicing javelin and discus as well. The weight throw of course lends itself well to hammer training also (one of our specialties). Ian Morton coaches the throws group with WAC. He has experience in the throws both as an athlete and as a coach. Ian is now beginning his 8th year of coaching throws. He had previously spent 3 years coaching with Laurel Creek TFC and is currently in his 5th year of coaching the University of Waterloo throws program. In addition to his club and university responsibilities, Ian still finds time to coach throws with Stratford Northwestern SS. Coach Morton has had much success through his athletes as well, including OFSAA medallists and finalists, Athletics Ontario medallists, Athletics Canada finalists, as well as a CIS finalist with UW. You are most welcome to join us. Please feel free to email coachmorton@waterlooathletics.ca to arrange your first visit.
